confessions of a crafter

 I don't mend.
I have a pile which is the mending pile. It is a about a 6-8 months turn around.
My husband has been waiting for one button to be sewed back on his shirt now for 2 months. It is a winter shirt so I think I might be safe till next winter now.
Even my 9 year old understands if mums says "just put it on the table, I'll sew it later" It really means" you better find something else to wear". My eldest has given me a pair of his school shorts to sew up. I'm seriously thinking it might be just as well to buy the next size up and hopefully by the time my 7 year old can fit into them I'll have sewn them....maybe.
Some clothes have sat in the pile so long I've ended up transferring them to the rag pile.

I did finally find a way to organise my cottons. Pretty good  - only 6 months!
But I only bought one and I need about two more.

As I write this I have had an idea.....I think it is time to teach my 9 year old to sew buttons on.

My Creative Space

We had a special workshop this spinning lesson.
Handpainting our wool was the order of the day.
Below is my work in progress. We were asked to choose 3 colours. I went for reds and oranges.
Then we had to choose a colour that acted as a contrast . In this case it was  green.

On other tables beautiful pinks and blue combinations were being used.

And lovely greens and blues.

And this is how mine turned out. Not quite how I envisioned. Quite subtle orange and reds.
Was hoping for more of the orange to be dominant, but  I know what to to do next time!

And some crafting from the kids.
Do you remember this from your school days?

AND sent off my buntings yesterday for Rachael's bunting swap -exciting!

As usual joining ourcreativespaces this week.

Thought I was prepared for this day.
Jess came to us as "a free to good home" dog soon after we moved to the country.
A kelpie cross something.
She spent her days chasing a ball and the cows.
She loved the kids.
I don't know how she did it , but she knew the days when I was taking her for a walk.
She would yelp till I got the lead.
Three weeks ago we were going on 4kms walks and then one day she suddenly couldn't walk 500m and I had to get the car for her.
I didn't think I would ever cry so much over an animal....

Monday catch up

I'm not that immediate when it comes to posting I realise.
I don't have an iphone - my phone is vintage stock - an app, what is an app?
I'll go on a walk and think of great musings to post about.
They're lost by the time I'm home or chaos of everyday life  just  takes over.
Photos are mostly planned/posed.

So this was my daughter's birthday cake that was sent to school on Friday.
There was a very happy smile that went with the photo but for his own particular reasons my husband is not keen on our children's photos being up on the web.

 Some more spinning.

Returning from a great night with friends in Sydney
we dropped in at the gordon markets on Sunday.
I realise also I now might have an addiction to doillies....and I made absolutely no attempt to iron these beauties.

I could have lingered longer but with kids in tow it wasn't going to happen.
Markets aren't their favourite places to visit, but not quite as bad as Spotlight on their rating scale. A visit to Spotlight is often used as a threat! I remember as a child absolutely hating having to go with my parents to the nursery - it was incredibly boring and tedious. But don't kids have it great now with the playgrounds.
In my day ...

My creative space

Haven't done a great deal on the crochet front.
Completed one more bunting piece for the swap (see side bar).

I have been spinning though - surprise, surprise!
This is my first skein that  I just dyed "rust". The dye is "landscapes" and available here.
I haven't crocheted anything yet with my new yarns. I kinda just like looking at them and admiring my achievment.
But I have been thinking about what to do with them. And todays plan is to crochet a simple granny square blanket with lots of bright colours. This way I won't have to have an exact quantity and I figure I will be able to see my progress in the blanket as it gets bigger.(I hope!)
The blanket will tell of my learning to spin journey.
What do you think?

And these are the lovely ladies I'm learning to spin with.
Jenny, the lady in navy jumper on left, is our wonderful teacher and ever so patient, and just so knowledgable when it comes to everything about spinning.

Did you notice all the different types of wheels?!
ps thankyou ladies for letting me post photos of you.

Pop over to ourcreativespaces for more creativity.
