No excuses

I love spinning.
I love choosing the colour ways.
I love choosing the fibers.
I love creating with the finished yarn.

Did you know you can spin fiber made from milk? It is very similar to silk.
My yarn can be found at The Bower Bird Project !!

And I still love crocheting.
This rectangle vest was inspired by a friend and also a Jo Sharp pattern.
It is easy peasy. The length and width can be adjusted to your size easily.

I measured  the width I wanted across my shoulders, which resulted in a 74 chain foundation.
Then I trebled into 3rd chain and trebled into each chain, hooking into the back loop only (this gives it a ribbed effect) and chaining 2 at the end of each row.
I stopped after 29 rows.
Then  the neck hole. I'm vague here on the numbers but basically remember it is the following format but the numbers might be different for you.
* The number of trebles at the beginning of row must match the numbers of trebles at the end of the row.And the number of chains will equal the number of trebles you skip.*
e.g the neck hole -treble 18 , chain 36, skip 36 trebles, treble remaining  18, chain 2 turn.
The back - treble into 3rd chain and  into each chain.
Continue till you have another 29 rows.
Sew or crochet up the sides allowing for arm holes.
Wear with pride.
This was made with a 4.5mm hook and some hand spun Border Leicester. About an 8ply.

Finally I'm curious to know what is your current favourite colour scheme in wearable yarn?

when time has wings

Haven't even looked when I last posted some creativity, but it does seem like the finished projects are mounting high without being documented here on my blog.
Have posted sneak peaks over here.
Loved how this hand dyed merino turned out. Does it look soft and squishy? Cause it is.

This is my "ice storm" on the wheel right now. It is a bit of merino, a bit of alpaca and a little bit of silk noil.

And of course some crocheting has been going on. Last winter you may recall I had a bit of a fingerless frenzy going on and to be honest I didn't want to go near them this year ....until I had a few requests.

A snippet of the recent festival.
Actually real tiny snippets as the camera got forgotten about for most of the day and what photos I did take were basically crap. Here's a glimpse at the gorgeous stand Steve made for my cowls and scarves.

And some boards on the festival day.

And two more cowls, in Noro this time.

Until next time stay well and happy.

What a bad parent I am.

The tooth fairy didn't come last night.
Apparently yesterday was a busy night for losing teeth...hopefully the tooth fairy will  remember find the time to come tonight.

Have you ever forgotten important adult secret stuff (as named by my 10 year old) like that?
Let the Santa out of the bag?
Or is it just me...

My creative space and the Spinning Tour

Couldn't resist crochet with some of my hand spun yarn. Still left a skein for the festival.

This coming week I'm on a bit of spinning tour!
Friday I'll be at the Ferry Artist Gallery in Wisemans Ferry.
And Tuesday I'll be in at a way cool shop The Bower Bird Project.
I will have my spinning wheel in action , so come see and have a chat if you are in the area.
More creative peeps over here

Have you checked out the new home for ourcreativespaces.

Taste of Spencer

Note the "spinning demo".
That's me! I'll be spinning and selling my wares.
Also there will be Steve with his beautiful chopping boards and his latest bench seats(they are being made as I write).
And I have just been told there will be bush tucker plants, handmade wooden toys, stilt walkers....and dare I say it...

I'll be back soon with more pics of what will be up for grabs.

Shop Update

I admit I am in love with cowls.

So continuing on with my cowl craze I have finally placed these latest creations in the MaudeandMe shop.
All are made with 100% Australian wool.

and looped.

And still to be placed in the shop (when I can take a better photo)

COWLS. Warm, cozy and stylish all in one.
And for those that have contacted me about my handspun yarn, I am working on puting some in my shop.
In the meantime this is what I am currently spinning.

Wondering and pondering

This is the skein from my dyeing day. It is a "thick and thin" spun and then slightly felted.
Pondering about selling more of my skeins.

And on the wheel at the moment is 60/40 blend of hand dyed merino and undyed mulbery silk.
Mulbery....I have a mulbery tree.....just wondering about silk worms.

I LOVE garage sales. It is the one thing I miss about living in the burbs. So imagine my happiness when one is just up the road. I was not the only one in heaven.  Steve could not believe his eyes either. He came away with a box full of specialised tools. I bought this desk knowing we had absolutely no space for it. Steve said this and I knew it. But could you have passed it up for $2?
So am now pondering , wondering ,scrutinizing where it might just squeeze in.
A little'un has decided it would probably be good in her room.

In reality something will have to go. I'm thinking  the doll's house.

And wondering if anyone wants to subscribe to maudeandme over at facebook?

It's school holidays round here .
No grand plans have been made.
Lazy mornings.
A lovely visit from the childrens' grandfather.
Friends will visit.
Some baking.
I will probably have to clean the house.
I will sneak moments for me, probably spinning.
A bit of kid crafting.
A lot of "get off the computer" and "can someone take the puppy out" to my children.
Definitely a bit of this too- "I'm bored" and me replying "go play with all those toys in your room, otherwise we can get rid of them""
Quick outings so we don't leave Gypsy on her own for too long.
Exploring the new BMX track in town.
More cleaning up after a puppy- love her but longing for the time when she is big enough to stay outside.
The start of the boy's soccer season.
Thinking , dreaming about a time where we might just hitch up a caravan and venture off.

What is happening round at your place?

The Bower Bird Project

While blog hopping around I often come across amazing arty/crafty shops and places I want to visit. And more often than not they turn out to be in Victoria and Queensland. So when I came across this super amazing shop The Bower Bird Project , just imagine my delight when it was not only in NSW, but in gosford- a short hop and skip up the road (well a 50 minute hop that is). If you are a fan of the handmade upcycled revolution you will  love this place!

This is Leanne, the owner of The Bower Bird Project. She is very supportive of local artists and crafters, and is doing wonderful things for the community (she is currently orchestrating a very hush hush project that is going to rock Gosford!).

Leanne also holds  workshops. Go check them out on her facebook page. And while you are there, a click on the "like" button would be a good move. It is updated frequently with new arrivals.

Here's a glimpse of what's in store.

AND now you can purchase my handspun yarns at The Bowerbird Project.
YAY!! As you might have gathered I am quite excited about this opportunity.
In store are samples which would be perfect for adding a trim or embellishment, felting or free form.

And then a few skeins for a larger project such as beanie, scarf or cowl.
Just in time for the cooler seasons.
The blue skein was spun from the rollags I posted just here on Sunday.

For more creative goodness be sure to check out ourcreativespaces on Thursday.
Now I am off  to get messy with some dyes and wool.
