My hip cosy and more

Not too long ago I posted about a pattern  I found on ravelry.
Once I started there was no putting the hook down.
This is a real quick and easy project. Of course I couldn't keep quite to the pattern. I made increases on only the first 2 rows. I also added 2 buttons to the inside edge, bottom and top.

And another crochet project was started immediately. This time a cushion cover for my son.
I couldn't decide between circles or squares

So I tried both!
added 2 rows to the circle and then realised I would
then have to rework  the instructions for the remaining square .

If you like the circle, have you seen Kate's gorgeous circles blanket?

So anyway now I need another project. I think this time I want something that will last a little longer, something I can put down and pick up later, and I still will know where I am up to. It is sounding a lot like a blanket me thinks......might have to purchase some more yarn....

And just had to add a quick photo or 2 of Steve's latest creations. The Camphor coffee table lasted about 1 week in the gallery before it was sold.

Monday we drove 5 hours north to pick up some more timber.

The plan was to spend 2 nights camping also.
The weather and flood watches changed this. We turned around and drove home -with 3 kids. Fortunately they are seasoned long distance car travellers and they were excellent.
Note the repaired trailer.

grateful for a wee stop

Odd title you think?
If you can stand looking at our recent camping location all will be explained.

We went camping last week down south. It was about a 7ish hour drive.
Beautiful spot. I do wish I'd packed winter gear though -absolutely freezing the first 2 nights.
On our return journey , about 40 minutes from home we had to pull over for a quick bush wee. That's when my husband noticed the trailer wheel was just about to come off! I have never been more grateful for that call to nature. It potentially saved us from something far worse than the $400 plus bill it cost to fix it.

A spot of dressmaking / part 2

This could quite easily be titled Why I like crochet so much.
I'm just a bit chuffed with this revamp I have to say. The original dress has been on the dressmakers manequin in my lounge for the last few months. I have been staring at it, day in day out ...wondering how to approach it... thinking... and thinking. I really don't know why it took me so long to work out. It seems too obvious now.

 I just  love crochet.
I love crochet because it is so versatile and flexible. It has real building qualities. You can start from scratch or you can add to existing structures, go in circles or rows, or both . Renovate , revamp, restore, extend- crochet can do it all. And it is very forgiving for a imperfectionist like myself.
Here's a the quick pattern for the edging.
1st row dc to end.
2nd row *2dc, ch 3, repeat from *to end.

A spot of dressmaking/Part 1

My dining table is always in use.
Not for dining though. It is usually covered in folded clean washing or yarn.
But it was cleared recently for visitors so I took the opportunity to turn it into the sewing table. Out came the sewing machine as I thought I'd  finally revamp this dress that I got from mum on my last visit up north.

But then someone piped up and said I promised her a dress.....

So out came a vintage pillow case, elastic and ribbon.
Of course I had  to put a crochet flower on it too.

The base flower pattern came from here. And then I kind of just winged it with the other two. Both are very similar - just slight variations.
Using fine cotton( maybe 3 ply) and a 2.5 mm hook.
           -Start with a magic ring
-dc 14 into ring
- *ch 4, miss 1 dc, sl st in next dc, repeat from* till end.

Same cotton and hook.
Start with  a magic ring
- dc 16 into ring
- *ch 4, miss 1 dc, sl st into next dc, repeat from* to end.
- * ch 3 , 2tr in loop, ch 3 , sl st in top sl st of previous round, repeat from *

And so my dress  was destined for another day....

Lovin' summer

Happy 2012 to everyone!
Finally summer has arrived here which means lots of lazy days by our pool.
For me it means lots of sitting by the pool and watching the kids. So in between the "look mum watch this trick" there is a lot of crocheting going on too.
And look what I found on Ravelry. I love all the colours. I love the yarn - Noro. And I love the style. This "skirt over jeans" is what I seam to wear alot of. And I love the fact I have a stash of Noro. Maybe not all the colours - but I will adapt.

Cute buttons too!
